Building Community through Social Events
Getting together for a church-wide social event is another way of increasing community. Every year we have two combination fund-raisers and socials (the Auction and the Annual Fund Kick-off) and two major socials (the Congregational Dinner and the Congregational Picnic). The Souper Sunday is also a combination fund-raiser and
social. Additionally there are other potlucks, lite bites, parties, and sometimes a Thanksgiving dinner at the church.
Auction Dinners and Events
Members and Friends sign up to buy tickets for dinners or other events sponsored by donors. A donor might volunteer to prepare an Oriental meal in his/her home for ten people; or to organize a bike trip in a local park or car trip to a horticultural park or museum.
Congregational Picnic
Our Congregational picnic is held in early summer. It is a family potluck held lately at the Girl Scout Camp, which features a swimming pool and shady pavilion. The picnic marks the beginning of our minister’s two-month summer vacation.
Congregational Dinner
Once a year, during the winter months, we have a congregational potluck dinner. We depend on volunteers to coordinate the dinner, with plenty of help from participants who enjoy this annual event.
Sunday Morning Snacks and Coffee
What is a UU Sunday without Coffee and Conversation! Every Sunday the Hospitality Committee provides coffee and a few snacks from 10:00 to 11:00 as well as following the worship service. Please feel free to add to the snack table any Sunday. Moreover, join us for a good cup of Fair Trade Coffee and lots of good fellowship and conversation.
Expresso Yourself Coffeehouse
Our coffeehouse is in its seventh year and is a popular event which takes place each month on a Saturday (with summers off). The first portion of the evening is open mic. It’s not just for musicians: story tellers, poets, comics, crafts people with an interesting presentation, and others are welcome. The second part of the evening features a headline act from within the church or the community. Check our calendar each month to see which Saturday the Coffeehouse will occur.
