October Share the Plate
October’s Share the Plate is for Afghanistan: Members of the Social Justice Council studied a number of NPO’s helping Afghans here and over there and chose Women for Women International. It has been in Afghanistan since 2002; its “Stronger Women, Stronger Nations” program has reached more than 127,000 women in five provinces. Women for Women International is still in Afghanistan. They’ve been in talks with the new government authorities to continue serving the women in their program and are working closely with other international organizations still in Afghanistan as they negotiate with the new government. The money raised through their Afghanistan appeal will be used for activities that specifically support Afghans: adapting their program to the current situation, supporting participants and staff in the country or the refugees who left, advocacy work related to the situation in Afghanistan, and other solutions developed in the coming days and weeks. "Share the Plate" enables us to act together, as a community, to reach out to help our friends, neighbors, and people around the globe in need. Two Sundays each month, half of our undesignated church offerings and all of the offerings designated "Share the plate go to the cause or organization chosen by the Social Justice Council for that month.
