Although once again, we couldn’t hold the Spartanburg Earth Day Festival, good things still happened! These include:

Joyce Harrison has led our involvement with the South Carolina Aquarium litter sweeps! The latest of these was in April, when a team of folks from SC Aquarium, Partners for Active Living, Keep OneSpartanburg Beautiful, and the Trees Coalition “swept” the beautiful new Three Creeks Trail on Spartanburg’s Westside. As the Trees group cleared vines and privet, more litter was exposed. They collected 2,604 items from the underbrush and the creek making the trail even more beautiful and healthier for all. Joyce is co-teaching classes in partnering with the SC Aquarium, including online classes. We participate in the almost-monthly litter pick up in our church neighborhood.

We continue to enrich our church campus with native plants, to nourish the birds, bees, and other native wildlife. Our new Triangle Garden features all native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees. As it grows, it will become a small sanctuary for animals and people, and our bench will be in shade. Signage will explain why we focus on native plants, and more.
