Beginning Sunday, March 21, 2001
12:30pm-2:00pm
One of our Board goals for this year has been to organize a governance study group. All are invited to take part.
The purpose of the group is to educate ourselves on the by-laws and policies of the church, and to read good thinking on governance via the reading list for training ministers in the UUA. We will move slowly, asking a lot of questions without hurrying to answer them, and spending a lot of time listening to one another and thinking together. Anne Garner and Scott Neely will facilitate the group, as these readings are required for the Ministerial Fellowshipping process in the UUA. This group is open to anyone in the congregation who wants to participate, at any point. You are welcome to come and go as best works for you.
Our first meeting will be on Sunday, March 21 from 12:30pm-2:00pm. If you are interested in taking part, please e-mail Scott Neely (minister@uucs.org). We will meet on the third Sunday of every month from 12:30pm-2:00pm, with variation in April to account for the Church Auction scheduled for Sunday, April 18.
In our first meeting this March we will work through the classic text on church governance in the UUA, Governance and Ministry by Dan Hotchkiss. Several of us have read this book for various other groups, and it is well-worth revisiting. For those that have not, the title is deceptive—it is not at all a dry book on governance. It is very good. If you need a copy, there may be some available at the church—please ask and we may be able to find one for you.
Thank you all who have expressed a desire to enter into this study, and to all who have been a part of developing this plan.
