From the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston, educator Kelly Thorvalson travels to speak with us about the turtles who make the SC coast their home, and what human beings can do to support our fellow creatures.

Kelly Thorvalson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston and began working with the South Carolina Aquarium in 1999 as an Aquarist. From 2004-2016, Kelly managed the Sea Turtle Care Center, greatly developing the program including a major expansion opening in 2017. In Kelly’s current position as Conservation Programs Manager, she is helping develop Good Catch, the Aquarium’s sustainable seafood program, The Resiliency Initiative for Coastal Education working to arm coastal communities with information and tools to understand rising sea levels, and strategic plastics initiatives to reduce the negative environmental impacts of plastics.
