September 2017 – Things Music
Modified on: September 1, 2017
Congregational-wide music-related activities are poised to begin in September as choir singers, vocal ensembles, soloists, and instrumentalists begin rehearsals for our fall music program.
A sustained interest in adult choir has enabled the opportunity for an additional rehearsal to be scheduled on the last Thursday evening of each month from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. Sunday rehearsals begin on September 13 from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. and continue each week except for the last Sunday of each month. Childcare is provided during Sunday-morning rehearsals and will be available if requested for monthly Thursday-evening times.
Choir rehearsals are held in the choir-room area in Wilde Hall, our lower level beneath the sanctuary, unless announced otherwise. Fall is an excellent time to consider visiting and/or joining adult choir, as new music is presented. Feel free to speak to any choir member or the music director if you have interest. The only prerequisite is being able to carry a tune. No auditions required.
Several times during the year children are invited to present special music during a service. The adult choir offers musical selections from various musical genres during the Sunday morning services on first and third Sundays. Services on second Sundays will include instrumentals and vocals by our House Band, which includes a mix of contemporary styles, as well as vocal ensembles, instrumentalists, and periodic guest musicians. The final Sunday each month offers the warm and soothing music of professional keyboardist and singer Sydney McMath, who also serves as accompanist for the service.
Other notable music-related opportunities include: A new African Drumming class for beginners starting in October. Details will follow soon. UU Coffeehouse on Saturday, September 30, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in our fellowship hall — a resplendent evening of music, poetry, and humor. Patrice Fentiman and Ron Fowler headline this month’s coffeehouse.
