Hurricane Harvey Relief
Modified on: September 6, 2017
Over this week, we have watched surreal and terrifying images of the destruction wrought by Hurricane Harvey. We have listened to stories of those in the storm, and we have spoken with friends and relatives in Texas and on the Gulf Coast. What we see with our own eyes is difficult to comprehend; what will be required to rebuild in the years to come can hardly be imagined.
And all through this week, over and over again, many of you have approached me with your concern, asking not what we can do, but urging that we do: that we act as a congregation to give our support. Your insistence that we act is itself a first sending of strength. We can help.
This Sunday, Sept. 3 and again next Sunday, Sept. 10, we will Share the Plate on behalf of Hurricane Harvey Relief. Our gifts will join those of UU congregations across the country to support combined relief efforts of the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. Half of all funds raised nationally will go to at-risk populations served by UUSC partners, and the other half will support UU congregations and members of those congregations most affected by the storm.

However, we give, whatever we give, in whatever way, let us do so with the full force of our concern and compassion: may the intention of our minds and hearts join these gifts, sending strength.
Thank you for the generosity of your care,
