Description of 2017 – 2018 Curriculum

Infant through Preschool

Childcare will be provided by our trained staff, Becky and Maisie, every Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

4K to Second Grade

In Our Hands. This hands-on curriculum involves children in exploring their own knowledge and feelings about the issues of peace and justice.

It will help children to understand their own feelings about conflict and fairness and look at ways to resolve conflict and promote peace.  The program will begin with interpersonal relationships and move to social justice issues related to our natural world and the wider human community.

A finale to the year will be the creation of a peace quilt.

Third to Fifth Grades

In Our Hands. This curriculum, based upon the same themes as for the younger group, will help children understand and explore what their beliefs about peace and justice are in their immediate world, and then begin to be creative problem solvers through a series of imaginative activities that involve movement and expression.  As the year progresses, the children will take these ideas into creative conflict resolution, and finally how they can impact our natural world and others outside of their own experiences.

This group too will create a peace quilt.

Sixth to Twelfth Grades

Heeding the Call.  This program explores a variety of oppressions in our society and encourages youth to explore values that help to counteract these societal issues.  The program will include workshops on empathy, courage, abundance, and joy and how these can be tools for social justice.

Youth will role play and learn how as UUs we not only speak our principles but act upon them.
